Not to worry - just busy

Hello, hello. So sorry I've not posted in awhile -- I'm fine - everything's great -- things have been busy! Thanks for those of you checking up on me. There's just been too much to write about and rather than just do a bit - I've done none!

We are settling in well - I've gotten involved in helping on a fundraiser for the school (but here the funds are never just for the school - they raise funds for different charities, community projects, or scholarships to the school). And that has been fun and makes me feel useful.
Also, I've been going to coffees with the moms from Chloe's class and that's been really great. They are a really super bunch of women and they have been very welcoming. There was a coffee hosted last Friday just so all the mom's could meet me. Very sweet. Also, the girls and I have been invited for tea after school a number of times and that is so nice. The nice part is that when the children start "reception" (first year of primary school) at age four, the class they are in is the class they will be in for the next 3 or 4 years. So Chloe will be in the same class (different teacher) next year and possibly the year after too. Also, a large number of siblings in Chloe's class are starting reception in the autumn (don't say fall really) as will Mia so that's been nice to get to know them (and seems like a lot of one's we've been friendly with have the two girls those ages).

Also, we've come to love love love the area we are living in - can't believe how well our selection has worked out - we are so lucky. We have such great access to either fun, fancy or practical shops and restaurants. You get a real local community feel as folks live and shop or eat in their neighborhood. So you are always running into someone you know - it's nice. Helps you feel like a local fast. I know I told some of you that before we moved in, I was having my doubts about what kind of neighborhood it was (they are all row houses, some look great on the outside, some not) but I've realized that that is just city living and many folks were away over Christmas-- there is a house on our block that is listed for 1.25 million GBP (that's $2.5 million!) and I've never seen so many Porches (and mean both suv and sports ones) with car seats in the back!

As many know, we decided to rent for a year and I have to admit that has turned out to be harder than I expected after having owned 4 houses over the last ten years. Renting is different. It's not your house (drapes, kitchen style etc etc). It would be nice to buy soon (lease is until dec)but the thought of packing up boxes again makes me want to keel over.

So, all in all - we both said last weekend that we are officially glad we've moved here. It's a great experience - I like the Brits, I like the city lifestyle of lots of walking and corner shops, and I LOVE the school and the incredible education (academic and manners and big world) the girls are getting. Chloe had a poetry recital today - Mia will have hers before Easter.

Must cut this short - I need to sleep. - Euge arrives back from US at 6:30am and then Gail (his mother) arrives from Florida on Sunday for the week (the girls are off for half term).

Glad you're doing so well! Sounds dreamy for the most part. I'm in a mood to move across country-- maybe across the pond?? I wish. We're about to start another "fight" with our school re: silly fundraisers and the junk prizes they have. Wish our school would do more for the community. Guess I could be more active in PTA, eh? No "coffees" that I know of, though! Have fun while you're in London. What an experience!
