Lucky - Health

Well, I'm feeling very fortunate on many fronts.
First and foremost, health related.
No chickenpox, no lice and no food poisoning.
Let me explain - while we were in Nuremberg for Christmas, a chicken pox epidemic was going on. My cousin-in-law Oliver even got it while we were staying with them. We left their house the day he came down with it, but given that you are contagious three days before you show signs, I thought the girls would surely get chickenpox. Now, any other month I would have been happy - thrilled even - to get chickenpox given that we don't vaccinate against it, but it would not have been welcome just as the girls were starting their new school. The incubation period is three weeks, which ended last Wednesday. Shocked, am I.

So then on that very Wednesday Chloe brings home a note from school saying that head lice is going around with instructions on how to check for them. So Thursday, I conditioner her up, and use the fancy comb to look for little bugs and eggs in her hair. Nothing found. Happy, am I.

So then on Friday, I am using the fan (convection) oven to make the girls store-bought breaded chicken tenders for snack. Two minutes after they are supposed to be done, I take them out of the oven and then say to myself, "these are yucky - floppy and kinda soggy - I won't buy these again." So I then tear off an end piece to try it. JUST as I'm swallowing I realize that the inside of the piece of chicken I'm holding in my hand is RAW. I gagged but didn't get sick even though I wanted to. So then I look and realize that the oven is not cooking at 200C as it's set at, but rather at 150C!!! So after I google "accidentally ate raw chicken" I realize I am not alone and learn that I have 5-48/72 hours to get samonella. Now that it's Tuesday, I know I'm in the clear. To say the very least, I will only be using the regular oven setting from now on. Grossed out, am I.
